So if you've wondered about the painting that's been keeping me preoccupied for the past three months (aside from that time I spend writing during NaNoWriMo) this is it. Whew, it took some time! And it's apparently a necessity for me to start every single one of my big paintings and then change my entire mind about how it's supposed to lay out, and then start all over with layers and layers of white acrylic. Fickle artist is fickle.
So this is the 16x20 painting done in acrylics of baby Jack riding the family dog Chase into battle against a dragon who turns out to be more curious than angry, that commissioned from me as a present for our mutual friend Jenn on the birth of her second baby. I made a tiny felt monster plushie for him in an afternoon, and makes me spend months creating her present! That's what it's like for your present to be shown up by...yourself.
All things considered, I love how this painting turned out. I wish I could have had better pictures taken of it to show it off, but that's my only complaint!
In other news, this may be my last big painting done in my ancient set of cheapo acrylic paint. I got a nice new set from the in-laws for Christmas, and even though I'm a little burned out on painting right now, am still excited to get to use them soon!
Haha. Yes. Very soon now I will have unimaginable wealth. I will hire you as my on call artist, and Matt as my on call DM. I will also buy the remaining yard needed for my Doctor Who scarf. good times.
I hope you do; it could be like Neil Gaiman writing stories for his children and finishing them when they grew up. That's what happened with Coraline, when his oldest daughter was younger. Now she's in her late twenties and enjoys the story.
